** PICK-UP **
File manager/uploader for Telix
Version 1.3

INTRODUCTION:
════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
PICK-UP is an accessory script for the Telix communication program.
You can think of it as a shell for Telix.
In "Message" mode PICK-UP makes message writing and uploading
easy. You will be able to write your messages offline or online*
with your favorite editor. Then just select your message from a
picklist at the proper time and PICK-UP sends the message for you.
PICK-UP makes your regular uploading easy too. Just select the file
you want to upload from a picklist, select a protocol (includes
externals you have installed) and PICK-UP sends the file for you.
In "Script" mode PICK-UP makes writing, compiling, and testing
scripts convenient.
PICK-UP also makes your general file maintenance chores easy.
(Cd, View, Copy, Move, Rename, Delete, Edit, Write, Print)
Selecting a new Dialing Directory is easy too.
You can configure all of the colors.
Built in screen saver that you can set the time on.
* Limited by the auto-logoff time the BBS has set for inactivity.
LEGAL STUFF:
════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
PICK-UP is a ShareWare product. It is NOT "freeware" or public
domain. If you use PICK-UP, you are expected to pay for it just
like any other program. In return for the $10 registration fee,
you will receive a key to remove the "REGISTRATION ENCOURAGEMENT
FEATURE" from this AND any future versions.
PICK-UP IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY
KIND EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED. IN NO EVENT WILL MARK P. HARRISON BE
LIABLE TO YOU FOR ANY DAMAGES, INCLUDING ANY LOST PROFITS, LOST
SAVINGS OR OTHER INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING OUT
OF THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE PROGRAM, EVEN IF MARK P.
HARRISON HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES, OR
FOR ANY CLAIM BY ANY OTHER PARTY.
PICK-UP is a trademark of Mark P. Harrison
SALT and Telix are trademarks of deltaComm Development.
Use of Telix(tm) for longer than 45 days without appropriate
payment to deltaComm Development for Telix is a violation of
international Copyright Law.

INSTALLATION:
════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
** ALL KEY REFERENCES ARE FOR TELIX VERSION 3.21
Put PICKUP.SLC and PUCONFIG.SLC in your Script directory as
configured in Telix. (ALT-O, F, item C)
CS.EXE from your Telix archive must also be in your script directory.
Make sure you have your Editor configured correctly in Telix.
(ALT-O, F, item H)
If you have made any changes don't forget to save them.
(ALT-O, W)
Make a note of the FULL Path Name of the program you want to
use to View ascii files with.
(The script will ask for this the first time you run it)
The most efficient way to run this script is to have it run
automatically when you run Telix with the command: TELIX Spickup
The S in front of the script name tells Telix to run the script
immediately after loading. You should also assign it to a "Hot Key"
in Telix with the following steps:
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
ALT-K -- To get into Keyboard Definitions
R or <ENTER> -- To select Regular key table
E -- To select Edit
"Hot Key" -- Enter the key combination or function key
you want to run PICK-UP with
@PICKUP <ENTER> -- Tells Telix to run PickUp when Hot Key is pressed
<SPACE> -- To get out of Edit
S -- To save your new definition
<ENTER> -- To write your definition to TELIX.KEY
X or <ESC> -- To return to Terminal Screen
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
CONFIGURATION:
═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
Configuration is done with PUCONFIG.SLC. PUCONFIG will run
automatically the first time you run PICK-UP (When PICK-UP can't
find it's configuration file). You can also run it manually to
change any of the options. (ALT-G, PUCONFIG)
Use your UP/DOWN arrow keys to highlight the option you want and
hit RETURN. After selecting one of the color options, use your
RIGHT/LEFT arrow keys to scroll through the colors. Hit RETURN on
the color you want or ESCAPE to keep the original color.
The ascii file view program must be entered as a full path name.
The time delay for the screen blanker must be entered in seconds.
Enter 0 if you do not want the screen to blank.
You have three sort method choices.
1. NO SORT No sorting is done on the files.
2. SORT 1 This is the default and is the fastest if the files
on your drive are normally in a random order.
3. SORT 2 This method should only be used if you regularly
run some program that sorts the files on your drive
into alphabetical order. (PC TOOLS, NORTON...)
Your editor is defined in the Telix configuration, not in PUCONFIG
or PICK-UP. (ALT-O, F, item H)
Changes will not take effect until you save them and reload the
primary copy of PICK-UP.
UPLOADING:
═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
"Message" Mode:
To send a message that you have written.
Do your normal steps on the BBS to start a
message including the TO: and SUBJECT:. When the
BBS is ready for you to type your message, hit
your hot-key to run PICK-UP. Highlight the message
you want to send and hit ALT-S. Your message will
be sent just like you were typing it. You will
then be asked if you want to delete that message.
"Regular" Mode:
Do your normal steps on the BBS to start an
upload. When the BBS is ready to receive the
file, hit your hot-key to run PICK-UP. Highlight
the file you want to send and hit ALT-S. Select
your protocol and PICK-UP will upload the file.
NOTE: This function will NOT work correctly with Telix
version 3.20. Other versions work correctly.
MENU OPTIONS:
═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
Most options are pretty self explanatory, so I will not waist any
time on them. Instead I have come up with a few notes that you
should read through.
NOTES:
═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
Go ahead and use ALT-D to make your phone calls. All Telix functions
will work as normal. As soon as you logoff PICK-UP will pop back up.
CTRL-D will let you select the Dialing Directory you want loaded
before you go to it.
You can call PICK-UP back up while you are online with your "Hot-Key".
Run PUCONFIG.SLC to change your colors and/or the name of the program
you want to use to view ascii files. The time delay on the screen
blanker and the sort method used on the files are also set with
PUCONFIG. Changes will not take effect until the next time you load
the primary copy of PICK-UP.
Hitting ENTER on a subdirectory will change you to that directory.
You can use the \ to change Drive and/or directory.
The S option in PICK-UP saves the current Mode and Directory as
the default start up settings.
If you hit ALT-G in script mode the highlighted script will be run.
If not in script mode, you will be prompted for the script name, and
that script will be run if it is found in your script directory.
If you hit ALT-S in message mode, the upload protocol will be ascii.
In the other modes you must select the protocol.
Other scripts you may have assigned to hot keys can still be run
while PICK-UP is running.
In REGULAR mode ALL files will be shown in the picklist.
In MESSAGE mode *.MSG files will be shown.
In SCRIPT mode *.SLT -OR- *.SLC files will be shown.
Escape will exit PICK-UP, but ALT-X will exit PICK-UP AND Telix.
